To many people the mystic states, rapture, the illumination of the soul and the spirit are abnormal, even dangerous states. According to them, one should only trust the intellect, only trust reason. But when it comes to pleasures, instincts and passions, well, then things are different. Instead of making their intellect work and to see that they are about to allow in all kinds of harmful elements that will wreak havoc upon them, these - oh so level-headed and reasonable - people give in completely. Then, they feel, it is not just permitted, but recommended not to allow reason to interfere so that their experiences may be even stronger. And this is what they call 'living'. Well, they are mistaken. It is just at these times that it would be better to keep a cool head, to refuse these pleasures and try instead to live divine states.
