Daily Meditation: Tuesday, December 2, 2003

Jesus came to tell human beings that God is their Father. …

Jesus came to tell human beings that God is their Father. But instead of reflecting and looking into themselves to find traces of that divine filiation, they limit themselves to a superficial, childish interpretation of Jesus' words. God is their Father? But, this is extraordinary! If our Father is all-powerful and overflowing with love, we can ask everything of Him! So they behave like spoiled, capricious, demanding children, convinced that God will always be understanding and indulgent, whatever they do. They will approach Him, covered with mud, and will only have to say: 'Dear God, I have been wading in the swamps, but I believe in You. Forgive me, for I know that You are kind and merciful', and God will enfold them in His embrace. No, a few words and pious sentiments are not enough. God will send them away, telling them to first clean themselves up.
