If you take the time to think deeply about Jesus’ words, ‘My Father is still working, and I also am working’, unlimited horizons will open up to you. Instead, you leave Jesus to his work with his Father, while you tend to your chickens and your pigs. You will say, ‘But there is a world of difference between Jesus and us! He is the Christ, he is perfect, while we… it would be arrogant to imagine we could do the same work he does.’ Fine, think what you will, but Jesus thought differently since he said, ‘Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect’ or again, ‘The one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these.’ This is why I say to you that Christians are lazy. They would have us believe that humility prevents them from engaging in the sole activity worthy of human effort: participating in God’s work. Not at all – this is not humility, but laziness!
