Many people say, ‘A spiritual teaching… How I’d love to be …

Many people say, ‘A spiritual teaching… How I’d love to be able to follow it!’ But they immediately add they’ll have to wait a bit longer for they have certain duties to discharge towards their husband, their wife, children, etc. Well, ten, twenty years later they’ve still not managed to free themselves, and some have already died without having managed to devote a single minute to the spiritual life. Why? Because no one can ever settle their everyday concerns once and for all. It’s just like trying to get a rubber ball that’s been punctured back into shape: you manage to get rid of the hollow on one side, but it reappears on the other. Whatever you do, nothing is settled in the physical world forever. You think you have no worries because your daughter has married, but it turns out she doesn’t get on with her husband; there’s talk of a divorce, and what a fuss there is then! Or else grandchildren begin to arrive, and so on. So don’t wait to start living the spiritual life. Start living it immediately, knowing that thanks to this life you will find the best solutions to the problems you face every day.
