It is an innate tendency of human nature to use everything to satisfy their lower instincts - cupidity, thirst for domination to name just two - which is why, the more science and technology advance, the more humankind is in danger, because there will always be people who will use them to criminal ends. The discovery of the laser has shown that there is no greater force than light. Unfortunately, this force too can be used for evil purposes as well as to do good. Some very ancient civilizations, which have now disappeared, had already succeeded in achieving incredible things using light. The people of Atlantis, for instance, knew how to use the light of the sun to power the most sophisticated machinery; everything worked with light. They made very bad use of their knowledge and power, however, and this is what led to their downfall. And if we want to avoid a repeat of the disasters that caused the collapse of Atlantis, it is high time that reasonable and enlightened people stood up and made their voice heard, so that the balance between ethics and technology may be redressed.
