Progress, making - a need that must never leave us
If you want to be fully alive, keep on wanting to make progress for as long as possible. So many powers lie dormant in you waiting to be awoken! Why do you keep putting them to sleep? You meet people who at only fifty or sixty, or even younger, already seem dead and buried. Yes, you can even see the gravestone over them, with ‘Here lies so-and-so’ written on it. Why is that? Even if you are tired, even if old age is close, you should tell yourself there is always progress to be made, something to understand, something to undertake, and never accept torpor and stagnation. Even if you are paralysed or dying, there are still things to be done… if it’s only thanking heaven.
