Success - it depends on our ability to see, to observe

One of the secrets of success is the ability to see. When you leave an office or shop, you should be able to say how many people and how many objects were there, what they were like, exactly where they stood, and so on. Yes, this is important. Not because these details are interesting in themselves, but because it is important to exercise your powers of observation. So many people never notice things! Ask some men the colour of their wife’s eyes: they will be unable to tell you. They have kissed their wife thousands of times but have never noticed the colour of her eyes. Oh yes, there are scatterbrains like that, men and women too, of course. They pass by people and things without seeing them, bumping into them both physically and psychically. Do you think they look before crossing a street? No, not even then; and they go through life with the same lack of attention. Nothing is more important than to learn to see. Whether it be people, things or situations, you must learn to see them.*
