Spiritual faculties - develop them in order to deal with life’s difficulties

When scientists explain their work, they use diagrams and graphs so that their students or their audience can follow their reasoning, step by step, without getting lost. Unfortunately, graphs and diagrams will not prevent these scholars, whose arguments are so ordered and clear, from losing their head in other situations. For while intellectuals may prove themselves to be highly disciplined, methodical and objective when it comes to their work, once they leave their work behind, they consider it normal to live subjective, disorganized, passion-riddled lives. If you look at the statistics, you will even find the highest incidence of mental imbalance and mental illness in the intellectual professions. This is because the intellect does not protect against imbalance; quite the opposite in fact. Life does not just consist of making observations, measurements and calculations. Human beings are not machines. There is only one way to deal with the difficulties and shocks life brings, to avoid being swept along and destroyed by passion, to discover the true reality of things, and that is to develop your spiritual faculties.*
