Beginning - the moment of the utmost importance, as it determines all the rest

For every action, every undertaking, the beginning is of the utmost importance: it determines all the rest. This is why you must be careful about how you start your day. So many people begin their morning with grumbles and complaints! They should not be surprised if the entire day unfolds on the same note. And at night, when they go to bed, they cannot fall asleep; they toss and turn, switch the light on and off, and end up taking sleeping pills. Why, before getting into bed, do they not prepare themselves for sleep? The end of the day, as well as the beginning, is a sacred moment, because it is the beginning of another activity: sleep. Disciples know how to start their day so that it will be fruitful and filled with the grace of God, and so that they may disseminate this grace to all around them. They also know how to prepare for sleep, asking to go learn and work for others in the invisible world.*
