God - making of our whole being a temple of the Deity

It is not enough to think of God as our father and ourselves as his children, for this implies a separation, a breach: if God is outside us and we are outside Him, then we are at the mercy of whatever exists in the gap between us; we are outside his light, his peace and his love. So many mystics have complained of being forsaken by God! No, God did not forsake them, it is they who were unable to sustain their consciousness of his presence within them. God never abandons us; it is in our own minds that things change. It is certainly difficult to remain permanently aware that the divine presence lives within us, but it is towards this state of consciousness that we must work by making of our being a temple of the Deity. Yes, not merely a palace, but a temple. Indeed, to succeed in becoming a palace is no small feat, but a palace lacks that element of sacredness found in a temple. God will come to dwell in those who succeed in making of themselves a temple and He will never leave them. God does not forsake a sanctuary that has been consecrated to Him and in which He is worshipped in purity and light.*

“Through my teaching, I wish to give you essential notions about the human being: how he is built, his relationship with nature, the exchanges he must make with the universe, in order to drink from the sources of divine life. …ˮ
