Sensitivity - human beings have a lot to learn about true sensitivity

There is much to be said about the way in which human beings manifest their sensitivity. A film or play that shows a child who is abandoned or abused, or poor souls dying of hunger, will readily make people shed a few tears. But if, on their way out of the theatre, they pass a beggar whose wretched appearance should catch their attention and arouse their pity, they do not even notice. And when they get home, they are rough and impatient with their children, who need tenderness and attention. Yes, it is amazing how sensitive and compassionate people are during a film or a play, but how, when they are faced with the same situations in real life, they remain dry-eyed and cold-hearted. Human beings still have a lot to learn about true sensitivity and how to express it—not to mention the question of sensitivity to the divine world! How many are moved to tears by the beauty of the divine world? How many experience such overwhelming emotion that their whole being is reborn purified and regenerated?
