You will not defend your interests by being selfish and …
You will not defend your interests by being selfish and careless towards others. On the contrary, your interest lies in consideration for others, for in this way you improve the conditions of your own life. Let us take an example: you pass along a road where there is some broken glass; you see it but do not remove it, saying, 'After all, I'm not the one who let it fall, other people can just pick it up.' But fate has you go by this same road again: it is night-time, you are not careful and you hurt yourself. Naturally you will exclaim, 'Who is the idiot, the criminal who left these pieces of glass lying around?' Well, it is too late to ask. It was you who should have picked them up the first time you went by.
